2006

2006 begins with a last minute invitation to play at Brighton's legendary Americana club 'The Gilded Palace of Sin' in mid-January; a memorable show in the faded glamour of the Hanbury Ballroom represents a suitably fine way to begin the new year.

A few days later and the Bride play their first London show of 2006 to a packed house at What's Cookin' (at the Sheepwalk in Leytonstone) on February 1st, with local surf-noir comrades the Bikini Beach Band.

March continues with an invitiation to play another excellent Americana club night - Alter States at the Bassment in Chelmsford, Essex - and on the 15th Morning Bride perform to an enthusiastic crowd with local southern rock heroes Ragmop.

The rest of the month is spent preparing for the release and launch party of Morning Bride's second self-released double A side single, 'This Place is No Place for Harbouring Angels' / 'Blue Eyed Boy'.

Spring

For the launch, the Bride once again take over the Others in their native Stoke Newington on April the 1st, and the first run of singles sell out on an equally memorable night.

The spring continues with two semi-acoustic shows, both in London. The 17th of May sees the band travel across town to play at The Grey Horse in Kingston with Threewheeler; a week later and the venue is the underground candlelit cavern of Barracuda in Stoke Newington.

autumn

After the summer's hiatus, a burst of activity sets the stone a-rolling for an active autumn and winter ahead. Changes to the Bride line-up involve an overdue shake-up with the welcoming of new members Pete (guitar) and Alexa (cello) into the fold (and a goodbye to guitarist Fabio). The new line-up inspires a fresh sound and a welcome burst of collective enthusiasm, (just) in time for the other big news of the season.

Morning Bride sign a one year LP deal with indie label Letterbox Records, and studio time is booked (again, with Ed Deegan in Bow, east London) for November. New songs are delivered into the fray and existing songs are revitalised in a period of intense rehearsal and creativity. A succession of shows are booked to showcase new material and add to the momentum.

After 13 days of rehearsing, drinking and bonding, the born-again Bride play two shows in a row - an acoustic set at Pogo Cafe, Hackney on the 20th Oct, and a semi-acoustic set at Barracuda, Stoke Newington Church St, on the 21st. The former provides an ideal, gentle debut for the new line-up, and the latter turns out to be the best Morning Bride show to date. Activities are then focused around the upcoming LP sessions, as well as two more shows, all in November.

A return to the Alter States Americana club in Chelmsford, Essex, on the 15th, provides the ideal opportunity for the band to perform together 'fully-electric' for the first time; once again, this excellent alt.country night brings out the best in the band.

A hastily re-scheduled local show, at the Orchid Lounge in Stoke Newington, is the first 'electric' show on home turf, and the last performance before the band enter the studio.

Four days in late November see the Bride record their debut album in Bow, east London. Frenetic, focused and very successful sessions with Ed Deegan at the controls culminate in eight songs recorded and ready for mixing and mastering in early January.

December sees the band put the finishing touches to their debut album, with a day in the studio in east London, and a final (two-set) show of the year at the Birdcage in Stamford Hill, north London. A couple of weeks off ensue over the holiday period, with a busy new year beckoning beyond the break.
